Ross Says “Reebok’s Back!”

Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross just made a boss move by teaming up with mega sneaker company Reebok.

While details are still coming together, Ricky Rozay broke the news Wednesday (March 14).

Will sneaker money make Rick Ross rich forever? We will see. The Bawse has signed a deal with Reebok, as confirmed by his Twitter timeline and hinted after recent Reebok uploads and the “Reebok Back” video. (Nice Kicks)

Fellow Maybach Music Group member Wale has already gave the boss big props.

Rick Ross just hit Twitter with big news: he’s inked a huge Reebok shoe deal! We know it’s huge because Wale tweeted, “Congrats to my [good friend Rick Ross for] signing a bigger deal then most athletes wit @reebokclassic.” That isn’t actually the Reebok Classic Twitter account, but it’s the thought that counts. Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy also congratulated Ross on making a big power move.

“S/O to @rickyrozay for his sneaker deal with @reebokclassics,” Diddy tweeted March 14th. (Diddy’s Twitter)

This marks Reebok’s latest rap-related venture since teaming with New York rapper Action Bronson for his new Blue Chips mixtape.

That open-minded attitude attracted Reebok, leading it to fund the project and sponsor the release. “They’re very progressive. They’re both two different people, both very creative,” says Reebok head of entertainment for global Matt Pantoja, a hip-hop fan and friend of managers Dante Ross (Bronson) and Peter Oasis (Party Supplies). “Everybody’s talking about bringing New York back and all these things, and I felt like this was something that was going to create that kind of energy and get people psyched on the project.” (Billboard)

Last year, Reebok Classics product manager Damion Presson gave SOHH his reaction to Ricky Rozay heating up the summer with a “Reebok’s Back” music anthem.

“I think it was totally unexpected,” Presson told SOHH when asked about Reebok’s reaction to Ross’ “Reebok’s Back” track. “I don’t think anyone expected that and that’s kind of how [creative director] Swizz [Beatz] operates. He just does things and you’re like, ‘Wow.’ I think the reaction from the building, when the rest of the company heard it was just blown away. He did a song with one of the hottest rappers in the game right now about Reebok. ‘Reebok’s Back.’ I mean, people were just blown away. Everyone was just taken back like, ‘Wow, this guy just goes so hard.’ So it really shows the passion and I think people here at Reebok appreciate that and that’s why they’ll go the extra mile for Swizz because they know he’s out there on the street going hard…It’s funny because I work so closely with him that sometimes I’ll have designers walk by me and say, ‘Reebok Is Back’, the song, just because they’re excited and they know I have a close relationship with Swizz. So it’s an exciting time. It’s very, very exciting. ” (SOHH)

DMX Airs Out Drake & Ross During Interview

While Drake no longer has to worry about a rap battle with hip-hop veteran Common, the Young Money star may have to keep his eyes out on former Ruff Ryders leader DMX who has revealed his disinterest in him and Rick Ross.

Asked for his opinion on Rick Ross, X said he simply did not respect the rapper as a pure lyricist.

“Rick Ross ‘looks’ more like Biggie,” X said, speaking to “Breakfast Club” co-host Charlamagne Tha God. “[He's got lyrics?] Well I guess, I guess, I guess. I’m just not impressed, man. I’m not impressed. … He’s aight, man, he just talks about eating, girlfriends too much. How much can a n*gga eat? How much weed can you smoke? Like, aight. Let’s talk about something else. I know you got the Maybach, the Ashton Martin, OK. Good for you, d*mn. Come on. I see a whole ‘nother side of the coin, son.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

When presented with the question of how he feels about Drake, DMX did not censor himself on his issues toward the rapper.

“No, no,” X said when asked if he likes Drake. “I don’t like anything about Drake. I don’t like his f*cking voice. I don’t like what he talks about, I don’t like his face, I don’t like the way he walks, I don’t like nothing. I don’t like his haircut. I might just — let me shut up. Stop right there.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Despite X’s criticisms, both hip-hop stars were named in MTV’s annual “Hottest MCs in the Game” list.

Ross topped the list, which also included Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa and Wale. Each MC was judged based on our Hottest criteria, which included impact, buzz, sales, lyrics, swag and the intangibles. Rozay surely met all of the above. His impact on the game is undeniable, with his Maybach Music Group and key guest appearances on songs like Meek Mill’s “Ima Boss” and Lil Wayne’s “John,” Ross maintained a consistent buzz all year long. His Self Made, Vol. 1 compilation album debuted at #1 on the Billboard rap albums chart. Lyrically, Rozay was a force as well, and his swag was through the roof. In January, the Bawse lit up the streets when he dropped his free 19-song Rich Forever mixtape. (MTV)

Recently, producer Timbaland dubbed Ross the new version of late music mogul Notorious B.I.G.

“Let me show y’all how to take it to the next level. The best with the best,” Tim said in the video. “He’s the newest, reincarnated B.I.G. and that’s coming from the heart — a n*gga who worked with B.I.G. I’m telling you like it is. I know rap stars and he’s one of the biggest rap stars who ever done it. I’m happy to be a part of it.” (Maybach Music Group)

Pharrell Says Ross Is The Hottest MC In The Game

MTV’s Hottest MC in the Game, always seems to create a whirlwind of debate, and this year’s installment, set to air later this month, promises to be quite interesting as some of rap’s biggest names are once again thrown into the mix.

In a recent interview, rappper/producer Pharrell explained why Southern rap heavyweight Rick Ross deserved the title of rap’s hottest MC.

When it comes to MCs, Pharrell has worked with some of the greats. Skateboard P has produced and rhymed with the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I. and Snoop Dogg, and for this year’s hottest MC in the game, P has a nomination: “Rick Ross is on his way, he’s working his way. He’s been doing it for a minute, and he’s been really consistent,” the Neptunes producer told MTV News on Friday in Miami. The debate rages on, and Sunday, February 19, the “Hottest MCs in the Game VII” will premiere on MTV2. During the half-hour special, MTV’s Hottest MCs Hip-Hop Brain Trust will gather at the roundtable and decide the top five rappers in the game. Beginning February 13, MTV will reveal MCs 10 through six online, but only one spitter can snag the #1 spot.(MTV)

Pharrell went on to reveal that he and Ross have “something special” in the works.

Skateboard might be just a bit biased as he reveals to MTV News that he and the Bawse have some very exciting things in the works — then again, Pharrell has worked with a number of MCs who could contend for the crown. “He and I have something special too. We have a special record too, but we’re still working,” the multiplatinum producer said. “I’m happy to be a part of it.” (MTV)

In August, Ross shared his excitement in expanding his empire, as he added Atlanta’s DJ Scream to the MMG roster.

“This is one of the moves I’m most proud of,” Ross said in an interview. “This is something I’ve never done, but something I’m excited about. Me watching Scream build his brand for the last few years, be a part of some of the dopest projects to come out of the South — I wanted to see the homie make a major debut. Put out an album on a worldwide scale and that’s something we [gonna] do. I’ma support the homie on all of his endeavors.”(Hot 107.9)

Last September, Pharrell praised Rozay’s sound for helping him excel.

Pharrell names Rick Ross as one of hip-hop’s current MVPs. “The way Ross is killing it right now. It’s been a minute since the last time we had somebody like him to come out and do what he’s doing or like a Wayne,” Pharrell tells VIBE. “It’s just completely authentic. [Ross] knows what he wants to do –knows his sound, has a style, has a definitive position, has a perspective on the game and what he adds to it and how he’s gonna change it,” he continues. “So music is in a really, really good place now and I’m watching it. I’m in the studio and everything is changing.” (VIBE)
